Minutes 9-11-2007

The Glacial Hills Elementary School Board met for a special meeting on September 11th, 2007 at Glacial Hills Elementary School.

President Lara Amundson called the meeting to order at 7:05.  Board members present were Lara Amundson, Nancy Rapp, Ernie Watson, Kurt Swensrud, Kurt Amundson, and Joy Peterson.  Also present was Dyanne Parsons and Jackie Ranum. 

A motion was made by Ernie and second by Joy to make an addition to the agenda and add under New Business; the rate of pay for subs, rate of pay for auxiliary staff, Mackin Library,  and approval to hire Roberta Kuhnau@ 8.50/hour for special education para.  The motion carried.

New Business:

-           The Minnewaska Lutheran Home has a Rainbow Rider bus that they are interested in selling.  Lara has put in an application to the Brang Foundation for funds to cover this cost.  There was discussion about the size of the bus and whether or not it would be worth doing it if one class would not be able to fit on the bus at the same time.  A motion was made by Joy and second by Ernie to spend no more than 2,000 dollars for the Rainbow Rider contingent on the capacity and an inspection.  The motion carried.

-          Dyanne and Ernie attended the City Council meeting to ask that the school be allowed to rent the Senior Center to be used as gym space.  Marilyn will contact Dyanne when the city inspector is in town.  The building will need to be inspected to insure that it can be used for that purpose.

-          A motion was made by Ernie and second by Kurt Amundson to put Sue Gregersen from part time to full time retro to 9/4/07 at 30,000 dollars.  The motion carried.

-          A motion was made by Joy and second by Ernie to put Nancy Rapp to full time instead of part time.  The motion carried.  Nancy abstained from voting.

-           A motion was made by Joy and second by Kurt S. to increase Jon Jordahl, custodian, to 6 hours per day.  The motion carried.

-          A motion was made by Joy and second by Ernie to hire Vickie Bosl for school nurse at 12 dollars/hour based on 2 hours per day plus hearing, vision, and scoliosis screenings.  The motion carried.

-          There was discussion of hiring a part time person to help in the kitchen.  The budget will need to be looked at before this is possible.  We will contact the churches and study clubs and ask them to send volunteers on a regular basis for the lunch hour.

-          Brandon Communications has been contacted about a two way radio for communicating with Palmer Bus Services.  There quote is for 2036.40 dollars.  A motion was made by Ernie and second by Kurt S. to accept this quote and have Brandon Communications install the two way radio.  The motion carried.

-          A motion was made by Ernie and second by Joy to pay sub’s for teachers 100 dollars per day.  The motion carried.

-          A motion was made by Joy and second by Ernie to pay sub’s for para’s 8.50 per hour.  The motion carried.

-          A motion was made by Joy and second by Ernie to pay a sub for the cook or secretary 10 dollars per hour.  The motion carried.

-          A motion was made by Ernie and second by Kurt A. to hire Roberta Kuhnau at 7.5 hours per day at 8.50 per hour.  The motion carried.

-          A motion was made by Kurt S. and second by Ernie to place Kapco covers, hard coating on paperbacks, on the adult titles which would be 460.03.  The motion carried.  Nancy is to ask for a discount, but if not given a discount to order the covers anyway.

-          Joy let the board know that her and Ann Major will be co-chairs of the parent committee and will meet on the 3^rd Monday of the month at 3:30.

-          A motion was made by Joy and second by Kurt S. to adjourn the meeting.  The meeting concluded at 8:30pm
