About Me!
Welcome to first grade! My name is Mary Johnsrud and I am the first grade teacher. I am a graduate of Moorhead State University with a degree in elementary education. After graduating, I substitute taught in the school districts of Monticello and Osseo for five months. I then moved back to Starbuck and taught in Alexandria as a learning resource teacher in first grade for one year and then as a title one tutor in first grade at Minnewaska Elementary for one year. Mitch and I live in Lowry and both grew up in Starbuck. We just had our first child, Cale, who was born on February 27th. We feel so blessed! As a family we enjoy boating, camping, taking walks, fishing, playing games and golfing. GHES is a wonderful place to work and I enjoy everyday here!
In our classroom you will see........
Children growing and learning together through reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and centers. We use our basal readers and also do guided reading so the children are reading at their own level. The children enjoy writer's workshop three times a week in which they enjoy writing stories that have happened to them. I love reading their stories! In Science we talk about rocks and pebbles, solids and liquids, and new plants. In the springtime you will see many plants growing from seeds and bulbs in our classroom. In social studies we learn about our community and different jobs in our community.
