Fifth Grade Teacher
Mrs. Johnsrud's Fifth Grade Class
Welcome to fifth grade! My name is Mary Johnsrud and I am the fifth grade teacher. I am a graduate of Moorhead State University with a degree in elementary education. After graduating, I substitute taught in the school districts of Monticello and Osseo for five months. I then moved back to Starbuck and taught in Alexandria as a learning resource teacher in first grade for one year and then as a title one tutor in first grade at Minnewaska Elementary for one year. Mitch and I live in Lowry and both grew up in Starbuck. We have two children: Cale (3 1/2) and Ally (1). We feel so blessed! As a family we enjoy boating, camping, taking walks, fishing, playing games and golfing. GHES is a wonderful place to work and I enjoy everyday here!
In our classroom you will see........
Children growing and learning together through reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. We are using The Reader's Workshop by Lucy Calkins for our reading program this year. In this, the children are able to enjoy books at their own level. We work a lot with reading partners and sharing our stories with them. The children enjoy writer's workshop three times a week in which they enjoy writing personal narrative stories. I love reading their stories!
