Fifth Grade Teacher
Mrs. Johnsrud's Fifth Grade Class
In October, we read many books written by Patricia Polacco and wrote her a letter. We can't wait to hear back from her!
Welcome to fifth grade! My name is Mary Johnsrud and I am the fifth grade teacher. I have been at GHES since we first opened our doors seven years ago. I taught first grade for five years and this is my 2nd year of teaching 5th grade. I am a graduate of Moorhead State University with a degree in elementary education. I have worked in my different school districts subbing and teaching: Osseo, Monticello, Maple Grove, Alexandria, and Minnewaska. Mitch and I live in Lowry and both grew up in Starbuck. We have two children: Cale (4 1/2) and Ally (2). We feel so blessed! As a family we enjoy boating, camping, taking walks, fishing, playing games and golfing. GHES is a wonderful place to work and I enjoy everyday here!
In our classroom you will see........
Children growing and learning together through reading, writing, grammar, and spelling. We are using The Reader's Workshop by Lucy Calkins for our reading program this year. In this, the children are able to enjoy books at their own level. We work a lot with reading partners and sharing our stories with them. The children enjoy writer's workshop three times a week in which they enjoy writing personal narrative stories. I love reading their stories!
